Bengaluru: 'School opening decision soon after consulting CM' - Education minister

Bengaluru, Dec 10: Minister for primary and secondary education S Suresh Kumar said that decision on the opening of schools will be taken quickly after holding a meeting with the chief minister. He said that in the interests of the academic future of the children, a decision about the opening of schools with necessary safety measures will be taken after discussing with the chief minister.

The minister held a meeting at the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday with the representatives of the Unaided Private PU College Managements. He recalled that recently, legislative council members representing graduate and teachers constituencies had opined that opening of schools backed by safety measures is required in view of social problems arising out of the children remaining out of schools for long. "Parents are worried as schools and colleges have not been functioning. The students need to participate in national level competitive exams for their future studies. Therefore, taking all things into consideration, a suitable decision will be taken soon," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, noted that in none of the states, schools have reopened fully because of the ill effects of coronavirus disease. He said that higher education and university classes have been opened in the interests of the future of the students. He said that discussions will be held with the chief minister and a decision will be arrived at soon.

MLA Arun Shahapur brought to the notice of the meeting problems faced by the children and the specific issues relating to rural people that have arisen out of continued closure of the schools.

President of the Private Unaided Schools Managements Committee, Dr M Mohan Alva, Sharada educational institutions Mangaluru president Prof M B Purnik, Expert Institutions president Prof Narendra Nayak, Shakti Education Trust administrative officer K C Naik, Davanagere Visvesvaraya Educational Institutions president Sridhar, convener of Kalladka Sri Ram Vidyamandir Vasanth Madhav, Hebri SR PU college president Nagaraja Shetty and over 20 representatives of various educational institutions in the state along with the director of PU education Snehal and officials of the education department were present.

    You have to starting vaccinating now.... instead of making promise pe promise on 8 vaccines, Indian vaccines, 3 crore 30 crore etc. all in future .... start vaccinating and let there be 0 fatalities from covid ... then people will send children to school...

    MoNa has been promising vaccine to coincide with Indian Indian day August 2020... promise like many other promises fell by way side...

    Now cases are reducing... dont create new problems by opening schools...

    Classes for 10 and 12 th students is very important. Classes are needed for them at the moment. They will be writing boards very soon so offline only for 10 and 12. Rest can continue with online only...

    Procrastination causing Policy Paralysis.
    Sir you either open the schools & colleges or you don't, take a decision & stick to it instead of these knee jerk decisions based not on science but on fake propaganda of vested interests.
    Again I would like to remind our minister to go on study tour of Sweden & see for yourself after a initial precautions there no schools or cities were closed but kept open, after initial burst the infection lost its fury & within a few months everybody is visiting salons, parlors, bars & restaurants with no social distancing, no masks & no sanitisers but back to real normal & no hike or second wave could be seen there.
    Another interesting analysis based on real data has come out-
    which points out & compares all major cities of the world where lock downs were imposed & where no lock downs took place, very interesting fact shows lock downs didn't prevent either surge or reduction in infections in any of the above countries.
    What they found was those cities which locked down to reduce the infection did badly the next season as more people died while those which didn't had lower rate of infections & deaths. They compared 3 year cycle of seasonal respiratory illnesses in both type of cities.
    And one more vital reality that proves the mortality rates in all the past & present year were the same & the spikes seen were identical which proves Corona infection getting labelled as Pandemic itself is wrong.
    Now coming to opening or not opening schools should be left to college managements & parents discretion instead of govt. trying to control everything.
    One more suggestion is start Home Schooling with Exams only in any institutions should be introduced in India like in West & US. But management of institutions will oppose it as their major revenue is by getting compulsory admissions into their colleges & they don't want to loose that golden egg laying opportunity.

    Lockdown , after virus had spread to all corners of the world,only DELAYS the inevitable, it does not prevent infection it only delays it.The better option would have been to restrict in Jan 2020, incoming people from abroad ( e.gthose who had left for important work and want to return) and quarantine and test them before releasing them. Lockdowns are effective in very early stages of a high mortality % disease and a only small area is involved e.g Nipah and Ebola. In many countries the govt. sends a pay cheque for sitting at home and vaccinations are free, how many of us have got anything for sitting at home? On the contrary we will be paying more for petrol, diesel and direct and indirect taxes. Many from the middle class are feelingthe pinch ( or rather punch) already.

    Please and please reopen schools after everything is free from Covid-19 as nobody can risk their children's life. Minister of education knows and so also CM about the norms and protocol of MASKS and also SOCIAL DISTANCING. Will these be observed when the schools of any kind is reopened .

    Intelligent parents will send their children to school.Those obsessed with "Covid-Mania" will not. A recent survey in Mumbai showed 3 out of 4 people have antibodies against Covid.The mortality rate of Covid alone is less than 0.1%.Why call it "Mahamari" ( having very high mortality)and close the schools in the first place.Vehicular accidents kill many times more,are we going to close all roads and stop all vehicular movement. People who have never examined a single patient as well as people who have treated less than 50 patients per day are the decision makers, the sufferers are people all over the world.Corona virus has ancestors and viral infections occour every 2 years, SARS and MERS were also caused by Corona virus. In the years to come there will be respiratory viral infections corona,adeno, influenza, rhinovirus and mutations of known viruses,are we going to repeat everything again and sit at home?

    Mr. Monty Doctor, not sure if you are a Medical practitioner or a PhD or a Vetinary Doctor, statistics of the pandemIc speak volumes of the havoc caused. It has tanked the world economy, disrupted lives , changed Our lifestyles. I don’t see any sense in your comparing the deaths by accidents or other diseases.

    Every day a new spin. It’s foolhardy to open schools at this stage. We are expecting a second wave. While many Clubs , Hotels, etc. are cancelling the usual pre planned Christmas and New Year events, some schools are organising large gatherings to celebrate The festive season thereby risking contracting and spreading the deadly virus. Mr. Minister, please don’t be hasty, lives are more important.
