Mangaluru, Dec 9: The sufferings of vehicle riders using Mangaluru-Moodbidri road are on the verge of ending. In the first phase, the patchwork of the highway has been completed and complete asphalting work has begun.
Asphalting work is being undertaken for a 25 km stretch of the road between Moodbidri and Beluvai, which is part of Mangaluru-Solapur highway beginning from Kulshekar, Mangaluru. Works have already started and as per the current plan, it will take 40 days to complete the work.
The work is being executed at a cost of Rs 8 crore under the periodical renewal plan. The road inside Moodbidri town and Gurpur have already been bituminised under the plan. The road is being tarred for the balance portion now. This is not road widening work, but just the asphalting work on the existing road said PWD highway department officials.
Bitumission concrete and dense bituminous macadam are used for the asphalting work. While the first concrete and tar mix is used for the entire 25 km stretch of the road, dense bituminous macadam is being used for select stretches. In order not to affect the traffic, wherever needed, work is also undertaken at night.
