Brahmavar, Dec 8: In the limits of Kota revenue division, groundnut seeding is going on at a brisk pace. In Kota, Saligrama and Thekkatte areas, people have been using tractors and tillers for this purpose.
Anand Poojary from Kotathattu, Shivamurthy Upadhya, Shiva poojary from Manoor Padukere, Bhaskar Shetty etc have been giving new ideas to the farmers to undertake agriculture through their in-depth study and simple inventions. Anand Poojary and Shiva Poojary have been conducting seeding by fixing groundnut seeding machine to their tillers. This saves a lot of money as labour cost is not involved.
At many places people have manufactured groundnut seeding machine with the help of ploughs, pipes, funnels, and bicycle chains. From the past two years, this kind of seeding is in demand. In this method, plough goes deeper in the field and the soil gets deposited on the seed. This reduces the chances of weeds.
In traditional manner, by employing buffalos, groundnut seeding can be undertaken in 70 to 80 cents of land in a day. With the help of the machine fixed to tiller, about two acres of land can be seeded in a single day.
Young agriculturist from Kotathattu, Ganesh Poojary, says that his fitting a machine through ploughs has become successful and now there is demand from various quarters. Raghavendra Poojary Kota says that because of the problem of labourers and high cost in employing them, this time he has used the machine with a tiller. He feels that because of less cost involved, this helps in helping agriculture to become a remunerative activity.
