Bengaluru, Dec 8: Mulky-Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian on Tuesday December 8 urged the Karnataka Legislative Assembly speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri to recommend the union government to name Mangaluru International Airport after Tulunadu bravehearts Koti-Chennayya.
Speaking during the winter session of the Karnataka Assembly, Kotian said, “We all know about the brave legendary twin heroes Koti-Chennayya. They were born in Tulunadu, five decades ago. In their span of life, they have built 66 'Garodi' and 33 'Tavu' and strived for truth and righteousness. Even today, these legendary twins are worshiped in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala states. Especially, there 260 Garodi outside the state. There is no discrimination of caste, religion, sect in the worship of these two legends. With the intention to keep the name of these two legendary as memorable, Mangaluru International Airport should be named as 'Veerapurusha Koti-Chennayya' Airport. It is a long pending demand of the public.
“Several rallies and protests have been carried out demanding the state government to name the airport after Koti-Chennayya. Hence, the state government should consider the public opinion and should name Mangaluru International Airport after Veerapurusha Koti-Chennayya,” he said.
