Puttur, Dec 8: The road connecting Nidpally with Shantadurga temple had been asphalted just two weeks ago. The bitumen have already been peeling off and crushed stones are coming off loose. There are allegations that the work on the road has been substandard.
The road at Devasya where there is elevation and road bend, had recently been asphalted out of the grant of Rs five lac given by the MLA. As it was becoming very difficult to move vehicles because of huge potholes on the road at Devasya turn, the locals had demanded for road repair and the people's representatives had responded.
Crushed stones used for the road have come out within two weeks. People have said that this road cannot last long because of poor quality of execution. Contractor Rafiq says that problems are created on account of heavily loaded trucks which move on this road. He said that repair would be conducted where the road is damaged.
Puttur taluk panchayat president Radhakrishna Boarkar, said on the face of it, the road asphalting work appears to be of poor quality. He said that the concerned would be instructed to set the road right.
