Mangaluru, Dec 8: In solidarity of Bharat Bandh, several organisations including farmers’ association, Congress, CPIM, DYFI and social activists, staged a protest here at Nanthoor on Tuesday December 8, against the three farm laws enacted by the Centre.
The protestors blocked the road.
District president of Hasiru Sene Raithara Sangha Oswald said, "Several farmers are staging protests in New Delhi against the union government but the government is taking action against farmers by stopping them with tear gas. Farmers' income has not doubled yet but politicians' income has doubled. We are suspicious that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced lockdown and asked everyone to sit at home to amend this bill. The government did not even think to consult with the concerned before the bills were being amended. The government can be termed as ‘anti-farmers government’."
Former MLC Ivan D'Souza said, "Since 12 days, farmers are on the streets protesting against farm bills introduced by the union government. The government could not see smiles on the face of farmers and the atrocities on them and wants farmers to bow down to corporate companies. The government wants to put farmers in deep trouble. When farmers place their demands, the government comes up with a policy which is against farmers and favouring the investors and corporate companies. It does not have time to speak with the farmers and resolve their issues, but during elections they visit every place to address people to ensure their victory. This is how farmers are being neglected. We demand to withdraw the farm bills immediately.”
Raithara Sangha leaders Balakrishna Shetty, Manoj Shetty, DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla, social activist Vidya Dinaker, Kissan Congress district president Mohan Gowda, farmer association leader K Yadav Shetty, CPIM leader Vasanth Acharya and others were present.
