Bengaluru, Dec 8: The Congress is likely to field Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Satish Jarkiholi as its candidate from Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency will be witnessing bypoll as BJP leader and union minister Suresh Angadi succumbed to COVID-19 infection a few months back.
At a meeting of selected party leaders held in the office of the leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah in the Vidhana Soudha on Monday, it was decided to field Jarkiholi from Belagavi constituency. Satish Jarkiholi, who was present at the meeting, gave his consent to become the party candidate, sources said.

With this, the Congress candidate for Belagavi is almost finalized. Former minister M B Patil, who is in charge of the election, KPCC working president Ishwar Khandre, former deputy chief minister Dr G Parameshwar, MLAs Laxmi Hebbalkar and Mahantesh Kaujalagi, were present at the meeting.
It is said that the BJP is leaning towards Jagadish Shettar as the party candidate for Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency.
