Bantwal, Dec 7: The street dog menace within the limits of Vittal town panchayat has reached new levels. The people are complaining about the woeful failure of the local administration in controlling the dogs.
Children and elders going on a stroll or some other purpose are followed by the dogs. They get entrenched on the routes used by the people and scare them. Not less than five street dogs are aways found lying in the courtyard of the town panchayat office located in the rear side of the bus stand. They feast on the food the passengers throw at them and threaten people going to the panchayat or library there.
The people say that the town panchayat is expected to sterilize the dogs and to vaccinate them against rabies but it has not been doing anything. Eyewitnesses say that a rabid dog which appeared two days back at the Vittal downtown bit and injured over six people. It also bit a few street dogs, they stated.
The chief officer of the town panchayat says that the problem of street dogs has been explained to people's representatives and based on their opinion, action will be taken soon.
