Billava Brigade holds bike rally to rename Mangaluru airport after Koti-Chennaya, police intervene

Mangaluru, Dec 7: Billava Brigade took out a mammoth bike rally on Monday December 7 urging the administration to name Mangaluru International Airport after Tulu bravehearts Koti Chennaya. But police intervened and stopped the rally.

The bikers were confused by the obstruction of the police force. The rally had started from Kenjar in the city. Later, the bikers left their bikes and started foot march towards Kenjar.

From Maravoor till Kenjar, the bikers abandoned their bikes and went on foot raising slogans.

Satyajit Suratakal, who led the protest said, "If the airport is not named after Koti Chennaya, the protest will continue. This is not a day-long protest. The appeal letter that was sent to the state government is not given any attention. Koti Chennaya were the great men of Tulunadu. So the airport here should be named after them. Our protest will continue till we get victory. We will not rest till the name of the airport is changed. Our protest will continue."

    Some group say Koti Chennai, some say Abbaka Rani ,no one is putting my effort to increase the length of the runway way . They can build a new runway from Sunkadakatte. Suitable name is Tuluunad International Airport.

    Maglapuram
    So rename it as KKMM International airport Mangluru

    Dont know whats wrong with people. When naming their kids they want unique names and will search everywhere for it but when it comes to Airports they have only one name. I am not against giving suggestions but forcing your opinions is not good. only a few inciting innocents but those innocent people have too lost their ability of having common sense.

    Try to understand my comment first before jumping into conclusions. I’m neither against naming Koti Chennaya nor in favour of bringing back British names. My question is why didn’t the concerned organization come forward to retain the name of Vijaya Bank? Wasn’t this bank a part of Tulu Nadu’s legacy to the nation?

    if we are running behind the name change and make all the people happy- for 2 year we keep Koti Chennaya, another 2 years Managlapuram Apt, 2 years Kudla Intl airport, Karavali Apt etc etc on contact basis or rotation, thisi is best solution to stop protest and fool the people.

    Sathyajith surathkal is been sidelined in BJP and he is not in the race for MLA seat anymore, however he wants to project himself as a Billawa leader now from Hindu leader which he was projecting since early 90's, thereby he is trying to give strong signal indirectly to BJP leaders, all these years no one had love for Koti Chennayya, all here just trying to work on their agendas rather than showing their real love to Koti chennayya. this wont work in Namma Kudla

    Kannan Mangalapuram,Mangalapuram is a word doesnt fit in our language.It is more a keralawalas or Madrasiwala.Why should first of all bring a other word in our kannada speaking area.second all this discussions and protests are not worth for a changing a name.It can remain as it is without much protest.

    Former CM Devraj Urs was. So he picked up Poojaryji from nowhere considering the caste equation and numbers and piloted him to the forefront. Now the same age old trick is sought to be played.
    That time it worked. Now it won't! For people now are more clever and educated.
    Look at some so called leaders here.They have suddenly realized they are Billavas!! If you had real love and respect for TULUNAAD heroes Koti Chennayya .you would not have resorted to these gimmicks.
