Mangaluru, Dec 7: As many as 10,39,217 voters will be voting in the gram panchayat elections in the district, informed deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra.
Addressing the media here on Monday December 7, the DC said, "The elections will be held for 220 gram panchayats in 1,527 polling stations. There are 10,39,217 voters in the district for the upcoming elections out of which 5,12,908 are male, 5,26,288 female and 21 are voters in other category. Elections will be held in two phases on December 22 and 27. Election notification will be issued for the first phase election on December 7 and second phase on December 11.
“The last day to file nomination is December 11 for the first phase and December 16 for the second phase. The nominations will be reviewed on December 12 for the first phase while December 17 for the second phase. The nominations can be withdrawn on December 14 for first phase and December 19 for second phase. If there is a need for re-election, then the first phase election will be on December 24 and the second phase on December 29. The counting for both phase elections will be held on December 30.
"The first phase elections will be held for Mangaluru, Moodbidri and Bantwal gram panchayats, and second phase elections will be held for Beltangady, Puttur, Sullia and Kadaba gram panchayats. As many as 220 election officers and 233 assistant elections officers have been appointed for the elections. We have also serviced the ballot boxes required for the elections. There are 2,626 ballot boxes for the elections.
“As per the election commission the final copy of voters’ list for gram panchayat elections was released on August 31. The voters can include their names to the voters list for first phase elections on December 3 and second phase till December 8.
“The elections will be held in 220 gram panchayats among 228 gram panchayats. The term for three gram panchayats has been extended, while there is upgradation notification for five gram panchayats,” he said.
