Mangaluru: 19-year-old bike rider hits divider at Padil, crushed to death by container truck

Mangaluru, Dec 6: A youth lost his life in a tragic accident at Padil here on Sunday, December 6.

The deceased has been identified as Manvith (19), a resident of Neermarga.

It is learnt that Manvith was riding towards Padil, when he lost control of the bike and hit the divider. The impact was such that he was thrown off the bike on to the opposite side of the road. He fell underneath a container truck that was moving towards BC Road and lost his life on the spot.


Sources said that though Manvith was wearing helmet, it could not save his life. The helmet was completely smashed and the bike was badly mangled.

A case in this regard has been registered in Mangaluru South traffic police station.

    RIP Manvit...very sad and tragic end of young life. Accidents are bound to happen but majority of these accidents are avoidable if only our two wheeler riders and vehicle drivers learn to value human lives. The way these two wheeler riders ride on the city roads and highways one cannot imagine when one's end will come. 90 percent of our drivers and two wheeler riders are unfit to drive the vehicles and ride two wheelers. No matter what this situation is not going to change.

    Every body talks speed, roads, bike etc. Has any body spoke of alcohol nobody talks even the police do not do any alcohol test. In my area lot of bars are situated everyday pedestrians are hit by two wheelers due to alcohol but police are not even bothered to check alcohol test.

    Sudesh Pai Manipal,what you say is right one side,about alcohol.But other side it is not possible to test every bike rider ,or two wheelers when they come across them It is time taking ,and without any doubt,one cant force to it.There are lot of two wheelers on road .I think here was certainly bike was bit heavy for him and speed inclusive.when rains then it is worse.One should drive carefully.When he was thrown off other side with impact of dashing ,we can think how fast he was and who knows how the wheels were old or new we dont know.It is a tragody to his family now to loose a young boy.May God give them enough strength to bear their pain .May his soul rest in peace.RIP

    Mr. Manvith started from his house Neermarga at 10.30 am and played 2 volleyball match in the ground. Suddenly he got call from person saying that collect the Jersey (T Shirt). So he was riding towards Padil and met an accident. His Father is working in our institution. His mother unconscious due to accident and now she is little bit better. May his soul rest in peace. Condolences to his bereaved family and loved ones.

    Metro costs thousands of crores and a city like Mangalore won't give return investments. More importantly it doesn't reduce accidents. Accidents happen in delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc.

    Ride recklessly or otherwise, DK roads and highways are potential death traps !!!! In comparison, my city of Mumbai, with an explosive population of over 140 lakhs, mind boggling vechile's, have relatively very few mishaps and deaths !!!

    In my opinion parents are pressurised to buy. There is no speed limit to some youngsters. A precious life is lost. Feel pity for the parents. Pray rest in peace for the young teenager.

    Manvith, read the article clearly again. Its mentioned rider hit the divider and thrown othee side ofthe road. Indian highway dividers are not New Jersey barriers. Its silly kerb stones dividing road. If you hit the kerb stone , surely your vehicle along with you will.land on opposite side of the road.

    What makes you think he was riding from pumpwel to padil and not from BC road to padil, the opp way.? .If that happened so, surely the opp traffic would be going towards bc road like it is mentioned in the news.

    I saw dis accident right in front of my eyes manvith was riding his bike from padil upwards towards maroli da huge turn he rammed into the divider and fell off to the opposite side of da road wer a huge container truck was moving he fell in between the middle of da container and his head got smashed under da back tyre pulling him 50 metres away which da driver dint notice because it's a huge steep turn ... And it's nt da container drivers mistake because he fell direct inside under neath da running container lorry

    very sad news. may god give strength to his parents and relatives to overcome this sorrow.

    If we observe all bike accidents, 80% of them are happening with youths. Over speed is the reason. I hope Govt will bring a law to limit speed of the bike to 45 KMPH.
