Mumbai, Dec 5: Heroin worth Rs 3 crore was seized from a consignment by the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) on Friday December 4. The consignment reportedly had arrived from Tanzania at Navi Mumbai declared as artificial hair, an official reported.
The official said that the DRI's Mumbai zonal unit examined the parcel that contained wigs meant for cosmetic use based on information received on the contraband smuggled in an international consignment.
DRI officials recovered brown-coloured envelopes concealed in the package and retrieved 1,007 gm of a brown substance, which was later found to be heroin valued to be around Rs 3 crore, the official said. The contraband was seized under relevant provisions the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, he said.
This is the fifth seizure of narcotic drugs (cocaine and heroin) by the DRI Mumbai in the last three weeks, he added.
