Udupi, Nov 26: The baby which had been discarded by its mother and found in pathetic condition in the dustbin, was given a new name at a traditional cradle ceremony held here.
The baby was found from the garbage bin of a hotel near the government women and child hospital here in the morning of August 10. It was rescued and treated in the hospital whereupon it has recovered. The child is four months old now.
Judge and member secretary of Udupi District Legal Services Authority Kaveri gave the name, 'Prajwala' to the baby and wished that its future will be bright.
The celebration of the adoption month, 'Madila Belagu' adoption programme and christening of the baby were held at Krishnanugraha Adoption Centre, Santhekatte here. District health protection officer, Sadanand Nayak presided, sub-inspector of the women's police station Violet Femina, president of Srikrishna Charitable Trust, Dr Umesh Prabhu, district Nagarika Seva Samiti secretary Nityananda Olakadu and director of Child Helpline Ramachandra Upadhya were present.
Administrative officer of 'Krishnanugraha' Udayakumar welcomed.
Legal surveillance officer of the district child protection unit, Prabhakar Achar presented the programme. Mareena convener of Krishnanugraha proposed the vote of thanks
