Mangaluru, Nov 25: Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials who found six private buses from other states which were depriving the government of taxes and moving through roads outside the city, imposed a total fine of Rs 41 lac on them.
The buses bore a single registration number plate. As they knew that if they enter the city limits, there is the risk of them being caught. In order to avoid getting noticed, these buses operated from the city outskirts.
Regional transport commissioner Shivakumar gave details of the devious ways owned by private bus owners and the drive undertaken by the officials to catch them. He said that the chassis number and bus registration number in case of impounded buses did not tally. He said that steps are afoot to find out the actual owners of these buses.
Joint transport commissioners, K T Halaswamy and Omkareshwari, regional transport officer Gurumurthy, senior motor inspectors H Rajanna, M N Sudhakar, Dr D S Wadeyar, Krishnanand, Shivaprasad and others were in the team which undertook the drive.
The officials who were undertaking steps to seize a bus from Jodhpur found a bus named Anand Translink bearing registration No. lNL01B1794. But a bus bearing the same number was already seized for non-payment of taxes. The officials came to know that the same registration number was used for another bus. They also took into custody buses bearing No. NL01B1797 and NL01B1795. Another bus which was moving about without paying tax, bearing registration No. GJ03BV9015 was also seized.
