Karnataka to table law on cow slaughter ban in next Assembly session

Bengaluru, Nov 25 (IANS): Karnataka Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chauhan said on Tuesday that a law to ban cow slaughter, sale and consumption of beef would be tabled in the forthcoming Assembly session starting December 7.

Speaking to reporters, Chauhan said that the department has been consulting with the experts from various fields besides studying similar laws enacted by other states. "I can assure that our law will be harsher than all the other states which have enacted similar laws," he said.

Chauhan added that he has held discussions with Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in this regard and he too is happy with the progress.

Yediyurappa had assured at the BJP state executive committee meeting held in Mangaluru recently that his government is committed to enact stronger laws to ban cow slaughter as well as prevent forcible conversions ('Love Jihad').

He added that once the new law comes into force, selling and consuming cow meat and slaughtering of cows will be banned completely, along with transportation of cows to other states.

"Safeguarding cows is our priority. I am very happy that this law will be piloted by me in the Assembly," he said.

In 2010, Yediyurappa in his first stint as Chief Minister had introduced the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2010.

The legislation would have instituted a blanket ban on cow slaughter and consumption of beef. However, the bill did not get presidential assent and was withdrawn after the Congress returned to power in 2013.

Both the passage of the bill in 2010 and its withdrawal triggered protests by groups on the opposite spectrum of the debate on cow slaughter.

Karnataka already has the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964, which permits slaughter of bulls, bullocks and buffalos that are over 12 years of age and are unfit for breeding and giving milk.

As quoted " ban on cow slaughter and consumption of beef"
First : who are these people to dictate what people should consume and what not to consume in a democratic country
Second : As only cow slaughter is banned or beef (buffalo meat is banned) they should analyze first the criteria and if beef as said buffalo meat exported why not it is made available in a legal way locally for consumer . So that one who wants to consume can consume beef as it is not cow meat. There will peace and enough nutrition available as not everyone can afford mutton.

    RSRB,
    EXTRACTED FROM WIKIPEDIA:
Veal is the meat of calves, in contrast to the beef from older cattle. Veal can be produced from a calf of either sex and any breed; however, most veal comes from young males of dairy breeds[1] which are not used for breeding.[2] Generally, veal is more expensive than beef from older cattle. Veal production is a way to add value to dairy bull calves and to utilize whey solids, a byproduct from the manufacturing of cheese.[3]

The move to save or safeguard the cows is perfect. They should draft a law where the cow catchers should be provided Z security and they should be tested weekly negative for consuming Sukka.
The government has no answer for corona vaccine but has a answer for the cow slaughter ban.
In India, Milk production amounted to about 187 million metric tons in fiscal year 2019, up from the previous year's 176.3 million metric tons. The milk production in the country had an increase of 6.5 percent over the previous year, as per report on Nov 10, 2020(Indian Agricultural Department)
Unproductive cattle are sold to economically weaker farmers for their personal use or the slaughterhouses by 62.9 per cent dairies — both at low prices to earn meager sums of money from the final disposition.
Now I ask the KAH minister and the CM, what they do when the cows become unproductive, Why are you fooling people. Do you think we don’t google and read what is happening with cows? Do you think we live in Jungle without internet?
What a foolishness to say that we ban cow slaughter. Do you have a infrastructure to feed the cows when they go unproductive?
Hello CM and the KAH minister, do you know most of Dairies, Calves of dairy cows are generally separated from their mothers within the first 24 hours after birth.
Have some common sense when you make some contradicting promises prior to election, and do you know that SC never allow you to ban cow slaughter.
If you really want to help us then, by the milk at Rupees 40 and sell to the public for Rupees 20/-

There is a mistake here. Indian cows weigh an average 385 kg. After slaughter, we may get 300 kg meat with bones. To make 25 tons (which is right figure), we have to kill about 83 cows per day and for 365 days 30,295 cows.
