Saligao, Nov 23: In a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday morning, a general store in Saligao burned down completely, leading to an estimated loss of around Rs 5 lac to its owners, a report by TOI stated.
The owner of the shop stated that disaster may have struck around midnight, shortly after the shop was closed for the day at around 11.20 pm.
After locals realised the store caught fire they immediately informed the owner. The Pilerne fire station was alerted and the fire and emergency services personnel arrived on the spot and extinguished the fire. Although part of the shop was saved, many items, mostly FMCG, were destroyed in the mishap.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown as the owner said he had shut all electrical appliances before shutting the store for the day.
