Panaji: NCP ready for tie up with Congress

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Nov 21: The National Congress Party (NCP) in Goa said that it is ready to alliance with the Congress party in the 2022 state assembly elections, with a 'respectful seat sharing' as a pre condition.

Narendra Verma, the national spokesperson was appointed as the NCP observer for the state. However, Verma did not give a clarity on what respectful seat sharing meant. NCP MLA Churchill Alemao said that it called for 50:50 sharing.

"We do not want secular vote to get divided and some other party to benefit. We would like to go with Congress but there has to be very respectful seat sharing with them," Verma said.

The NCP is set to open its new party office in the state's capital on November 22 with MP Praful Patel to be present for the function. In the coming months, another party office will be opened in South Goa.

"Our options are open. Today the day is gone where it is only Congress or only BJP. NCP is always open to take like minded parties onboard. Today in Maharashtra we are in alliance. Till 2014, for 15 years we were in alliance with the Congress. Now also, we would like to contest when there is respectful seat sharing with the Congress," Verma said.
