Mangaluru: Damaged main roads continue to create problems for people

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 20: There have been allegations that crores of rupees are being spent for unnecessary things just because Smart City funds are available, whereas places, where repairs are urgently required, have been left without attending to them. The main road between Pumpwell and Kankanady which is in a bad state since the last two years goes to prove the above allegations.

Right from light to heavy vehicles enter the city from Bengaluru, Mysuru and Kerala through Pumpwell and Kankanady by using this road. This main road witnesses movement of thousands of vehicles every hour. Even though this road is dotted with potholes and rough patches for the last two years, even temporary patchwork has not been done. The fact that the officials and people's representatives have turned a blind eye to the condition of this road has given rise to anguish in the minds of the people.

Two years back, this road had been dug up for executing underground drainage work. After completing the work, the dugout mud was heaped to close the gap. Because of the movement of vehicles, this mud has peeled off. Thereafter, crushed stones had been poured there. Because of heavy vehicular movement, these crushed stones have also come off.

This road has witnessed a number of accidents. For the two-wheeler riders, in particular, this road poses a grave danger as the crushed stones that are lying loose on the road get darted towards different directions when vehicle tyres move on them, and many a time hit the two-wheelers and injure them.

As vehicles from two national highways enter the city through this road, the area sees heavy traffic in the mornings and evenings. Sometimes it takes 30 to 45 minutes to travel from Pumpwell to Ambedkar circle.

Shivbagh city corporator, Kavya Nataraj Alva, said she knows about the problem and she keeps getting complaints. She said that the work is kept pending as road widening work is due here. She said that to obviate problems created for the people, temporary patchwork will be done soon.

All the Foot-Paths and road widened and parking places are occupied by street vendors.
The Corporation Vehicle takes away No-Parking places vehicles.
In such a pathetic and Chaos where to park, if the parking places, road widened and Foot-Paths are occupied by the petty, petty traders.
Is there any solution from the corporation and the District Administration?!

Sir There are any number of such roads in Mangaluru which are a nightmare for 2wheelers.Why can not the city Corporation prioritise the road repair work instead of taking up time bpund projects.Even it is debatable whether widening of roads is helping the pedestrians since it is used for parking 4 wheelers. There were high expectations when BJP took control of the corporation but things only getting worse.

Now that the MP, MLA's and corporation is in their hands what excuses do they need. The people in Mangalore are just bothered about themselves and so such things happen. Enormous amount of public money is being swallowed and still this party members, they call themselves clean.

The pot holes issues is never ending story... The road next to Radha Medicals has pot holes, without street lights and then then there are residents falling into the pot holes and fracturing their legs. Despite of repeated phone calls to the area corporater (Naveen) there is nothing done about it... He is available only at the time of elections with a lot of promises which are never kept... The DC or the Mayor nor the corporation has taken again action in this regards...

Good to see that many people have picked up this issue. It Is a serious issue where many accidents take place and valuable lives are lost. The problem is not only on the main roads. Even the inner roads are in pathetic condition and the authorities are not concerned. Many of the water canals are filled with waste and stinking water. How can the city be smart when roads. electricity and sewage system are are not maintained properly.
Hope the concerned authorities will look into these issues and improve the living conditions of the citizens.

Karangalpady New Cross Road (C.G., Kamath Road) is in very bad condition un-repaired poth-holes since 3 years.
In the Side by one small thodu/ rain water moving way is now full of stinking due to drainage water inflows.
Canara College/ Jail road, there is a poth-hole which I am seeing since 5 years unrepaired. Sometimes water fills in that poth-hole.
Wherever they dig, it remains unclosed for weeks to a month unrepaired.
Over all nobody is speaking, nobody is protesting. The corporator’s and Mayor are involved in road name changes rather than development of the city.
Corporation is going on permitting apartment licences without extending drainage.
The existing drainage is very old, overloaded with flats wastage discharges to the drainage.
At Bunder Azizudeen road near Indian overseas Bank a drainage overflows day and night. Virtually the blind eyes of Mangalore Corporations officials never sees it.
Totally the Corporation and the Administration of D.K. District is Collapsed without attending at least necessary jobs.

Not to mention the KS rao road. One of the busiest road for both vehicles and pedestrians. The footpath is non existent in some places and dangerous to walk on elsewhere. Don't even mention rainy season.
