Mangaluru: Surprise raid - Officials seize unauthorised crackers from stalls

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 17: Officials of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) conducted surprise visits to stalls dealing in crackers all over the district on Monday November 16. They seized crackers which were not complying with the government’s ‘green cracker’ norms.

Air pollution caused by the bursting of crackers is thought to be harmful for the people suffering from COVID19 infection. The government had paved way for bursting green crackers which are less polluting, on the occasion of Deepavali celebrations. The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, sensing that there is a possibility of the stalls indulging in selling unauthorised crackers, had asked the officials of the pollution control board to visit the stalls. The government too had alerted the deputy commissioners of the districts to monitor and check sale of crackers illegally. In this background, officials visited the cracker stalls.

The inspection took at various places in like Ullal and Kotepura and carried out by officials of KSPCB along with revenue and police department officers. Dr Manju Rajanna, deputy environmental officer, KSPCB, Mangaluru, along with Yashwanth, zonal commissioner, Mangaluru City Corporation, health officer Dr A M Shetty, revenue inspectors Akshath and Ravindra, environmental engineer Yasmeen and chief officer Kottekar Prabhakar, police sub-inspectors Gyanashekhar, Pradeep and Kalashri were part of the team.

I don't know whether the KSPCB does this every year at regular intervals during the year but I doubt it. Of course, they are under-staffed, ......................... (please fill in the blanks). Yes, of course their ears most certainly do not hear the "atomic bombs" being exploded all around them all through the year. What to do, their ears also are understaffed,..........................(please fill in the blanks)

I won't be surprised if the surprise was a result of an order dtd. Nov. 05,2020 by the National Green Tribunal, Delhi and the unsurprising PIL filed by CA Shri Vishnu Bharath before the Karnataka High Court.

I also would not be surprised if only those who were “actually taken by surprise” were given a surprise. I am certain that those who were earlier appraised about the surprise did not experience any surprise at all.

Nevertheless, kudos to the KSPCB for conducting the “surprise”. These photo sessions will now result in a report filled with smog. The KHC will be shown how hard the KSPCB has worked with their “surprise” actions. Then the case will be closed and then there will not be any more surprises other than the normal surprises that would surprise those who have no idea about ground realities.
I never cease to be surprised how the media is always informed about what is meant to be a “surprise”.

These small retailers borrow money & buy from dealers; now since they are not able to sell they will be in debt!
They should have been given sufficient notice so that they wouldn't have bought the stock & kept!

    Sirs
Request, instead of showing your powers on these poor cracker retailers, please raid the wine shops which open before 6am & openly serve booze in small dingy rooms behind the main shops even though they have only wine shops licence? Are the regulators sleeping or in an induced coma?LOL!!

Why can’t the raid officials, raid the crackers manufacturing units / facilities? Do they don't have courage to catch whales/sharks? Manufacturers already filled their treasures by selling to small traders, poor small trades are in souk now.
