Panaji: Police seize illegally transported liquor worth 7 lac, cleaner arrested

Panaji, Nov 14: A police team on patrol seized liquor worth Rs 7 lac that was being illegally transported to Karnataka. The Ponda police, while patrolling late at night on Tuesday November 10 intercepted two trucks at Kundaim after noticing that both the vehicles had the same registration number.

"When one of the trucks was searched, the police team found 210 boxes, each containing 12 of whisky bottles, hidden below a cardboard," Ponda PI Mohan Gaude said.

The police after detaining the vehicles, took two days to verify which truck genuinely had the registration number which was registered in Gujrat and an offence was registered.

Aslam Kasim Shaikh from Mumbai, the cleaner of the truck having the fake plate number was arrested, while the driver is abscounding, the police said. Shaikh has been remanded for eight days custody.

The accused are booked under Sections 465, 468, 420, read with 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 5 and 8 of Goa Excise Act.
