Mangaluru, Nov 13: A widow who was admitted to Govanithashraya, an Ashram at Pajeer, by pro-Hindu organizations a year and a half ago, and went missing on November 2, was found with her former lover at Ullal.

The widow, a resident of Adyarpadav, was having a love affair with Shaukath, a resident of Ullal two years ago. Hindu organizations who came to know about this matter had separated both, who were living in Vamanjoor and got the woman admitted to Govanithashraya at Pajeer.

The woman continued her contact with Shaukath from the ashram also. She suddenly went missing on November 2. A missing case was filed at Konaje police station also.

Police traced the couple from the house of Shaukath at Ullal and took them into custody. As both are major and were living together with each other’s consent, no case was filed.

Shaukath is already married and has a daughter.

She is an adult hence her decision, her life! But wondering why she wants to be a second wife to some one! In the first place why was she forced in an ashram when she wanted to go with him! Though it may not be an legally recognised marriage there is no law against their living together.

Religious Freedom as well as Marriages in India is a "Fundamental Basic Human Rights" of every Citizen of this country, which comes into force effective of January 26, 1950, by the late Great Dr. B. Ambedkar. Thus no human being can force anybody to stop any religious practice or stop any inter-religion marriages. Nobody is the Authorities to stop this.

If a Hindu Widow wants to stay with a Muslim man, that is their own mutual discretion and consent.

And in this particular case Widow missing from Ashram reunited with a former lover from another community is one of the best incidents to be recognized wholeheartedly. No Moral Policing is required anymore from any group.

Those who make Moral Policing is just waste, instead, they need to work day & night for their own betterment & their own family rather than roaming around and disturbing others.

Mr Devasvi Bharath. when the numbers of people following a Totalitarian faith increase in the country, they will force down your throat their religious Law . No matter what you say. Therefore one has to remain vigil. That time keep your hope that the Great BR Ambedkars Constitution will remain. Allthough i am little skeptical on that.

What is the problem with these hindu organizations..every citizen are having the right to choose their life partner and live the life they want without harming others.

I advise this widow lady should file a complaint against this organization stating unlawful home arrest.

Inter religious marriages are common in the Gulf. Muslims and Hindus live together in harmony.
Dating or living with someone you love is not acceptable by the moral police in Mangalore but getting your Daughters married to a total stranger of the same religion who rapes her on the first night of marriage is perfectly acceptable.
    This is Indian mentality!

Though sati is banned in India, life for many widows is still disheartening as they are shunned by their communities and abandoned by their families. When such woman earns livelihood by washing dishes and clothes in people's houses, she is thrown out, the moment they hear, she is a widow.

"A woman should die before her husband’s death so that she doesn’t have to live through hell like this,” I heard a widow saying. Many widows are abandoned by the family after the death of husband. In some parts of India, she is called husband eater, randi (prostitute) and widowhood is a state of social death. They are made to follow the rules of tradition. Some believe that onions, garlic, pickles, potatoes, fish and meat are aphrodisiacs that fuel sexual passions in the widows, hence they are anathema.

Friends, where are we now ? Have they become widows by their own act ? The organizations that think they are protecting these women are not really helping, but complicating their problems. If Atal Bihari Vajpayee was there today, he would have told these organization "either put up or shut up". If you cannot help them at least do not bring more misery to them. Why we do not have NGOs that can help to rehabilitate young widows by remarriage, if possible in their own community people. If you cannot do, do not come on the way, if the widow goes with someone. My advice is for people of all religions.

Anna, Dont forget that black negroes were chained as slaves to work in farms for the whites. In some faiths, slavery is divinely permitted. women can be held as sexual captives. Just open your eyes and read the books. women were also stoned to death for adultery. Barbaric right? I am not here to defend Hinduism, if there are practises which in present days looks cruel they are shunned as times passed. Can you show the practise of all those that happened in your neighbourhood?

Why this widow was put in a Ashram because she was staying with her former lover?

What this Pro organization does every time is only nonsense, mixing everywhere where it is not needed..Why dont they cant live their life as they want?Afterall both are adults.

Woman is widow, man is although already married ,but others need not mix too much in others affair where not asked. So many Hindu s leave back, divorce and marry again.Thats his wish.(Theirs)Second why Police arrested her lover in his house?Although later released. They self are responsible for their lives,so long they dont disturb others and dont trouble.

Would he allow his wife to do the same? NO! Because they have always oppressed women! Forget community, he's allowed to do it but people like him wouldn't allow their women to do it. And the "widow" woman has every right to have a man in her life again. Fed up of this kind of bias.

Why should this be a priority of the government or police to spend their work hours on such issues. There are so many other issues concerning citizens but instead they are ignored to run behind people who fall in love and elope. Government should run a matrimonial site

Let this pro-group find a noble educated & hard working noble groom to this run away widow.., after all she is also a human having a right to live according to her dignity...

In my village a Brahmin woman lost her husband when she was very young. I heard there was no marriage allowed for a Brahmin widows those days. Now, I do not know. A Catholic bachelor who was living near her house, felt pity on her condition and her forcibly made bald head, liked her and they married and lived happily till they died.
