Bengaluru, Nov 13: A youth from the town who stole more than Rs 30 lac from an ATM had sent Rs 14 lac from the booty to his parents. The Udupi-based youth who stole this money was Vinay Jogi. He has been arrested by Byadarahalli police, Bengaluru.
Vinay Jogi used to work for Secure Value Agency which undertakes the work of replenishing cash in ATMs on behalf of banks. During the auditing conducted in August this year, it was found that there was a shortfall of Rs 30 lac. It was also noted that during that month, Vinay had absented from duty and had switched off his mobile phone.
The agency grew suspicious about Jogi and informed the police. A team of police led by inspector Rajeev, arrested Vinay after probing the matter. The police also succeeded in recovering Rs 25.5 lac from Jogi. Out of the stolen amount, he had sent Rs 14.5 lac by courier to parents. An amount of Rs 11 lac was remitted by him to accounts of people who had lent to him. All this money was recovered.
Vinay had switched off his mobile phone after stealing money and had changed his residence. But he used to call his girlfriend over phone once every day. On the basis of CDR call records verification and technical investigation, Vinay was arrested, said a senior officer.
