Udupi, Nov 12: Following the announcement of reopening of classes from November 17 in Karnataka, Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha issued certain guidelines for the prevention of coronavirus.
Speaking at a meeting held over the resumption of government, private, aided and unaided college educational activities within the laid down parameters, the DC said, "The final year degree classes will reopen on November 17 in the district after observing all the COVID guidelines by the government."
“Students can attend classes with the stipulated letter of permission duly signed by their parents. Online classes will be conducted for the students that do not attend classes,” he said.
“The teachers, college staff and the students should undergo mandatory COVID-19 tests three days prior to the reopening day of the college and obtain a negative test report. All the classrooms of the college should be completely sanitized. Teachers should wear mandatory masks and face shields. NCC, NSS or other cultural activities should not be held. Teaching should be held in the classrooms keeping in mind the social distance with a limited number of students. Additional classrooms can be used if necessary. Thermal scanners and sanitizers should be provided at entry and exit points of the college. The highest priority should be given for hygiene in college toilets,” he said.
“Students in colleges should be made aware of the methods beneficial in the prevention of coronavirus. Banners and boards about the precautions that should be taken must be hung for additional awareness. Students should be made to take a vow that they will follow the guidelines. A COVID prevention task force is to be formed in colleges and meetings should be held to ensure that there are no lapses in COVID prevention. The district task force should visit colleges and take stock of the actions taken by the institutions. Suitable action will be taken against the concerned if lapses are found,” warned DC G Jagadeesha.
“Additional government and private buses will be put to service for the students if their scarcity is observed. The DHO will be required to provide first aid kits that contain all the necessary items to all the colleges,” the DC said.
“Lessons will be taught online for students who are unable to come to college. Students that are coming to the college should bring a lunch box and drinking water from their homes. Students should not share their belongings with other students. Colleges should inform the nearest health centre if any student displays symptoms of coronavirus and get them tested,” he said.
District panchayat CEO Dr Navin Bhat, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda and principals of various government, private, aided and unaided colleges were present in the meeting.
