Bantwal, Nov 11: A team led by district panchayat president Meenakshi Shanthigodu visited the Devaraj Urs hostel for backward communities in Vamadapadavu on Wednesday unannounced following the complaints from the local people. The team inspected the office, hostel room and premises. The authorities found empty liquor bottles and undesirable items in the hostel. There were complaints that some students along with a staff member are involved in the consumption of liquor and carrying out illegal activities in the hostel at nights.
Meenakshi Shathigodu speaking to reporters said that the district level officers will be directed to take suitable action in this connection. Meanwhile, the district panchayat member Tungappa Bangera contacted taluk level officials and took them to task asking to visit the spot and set the irregularities in the hostel right.
However, local people expressed anguish that those responsible for the issues at the hostel were absent during the visit by the authorities.
Karnataka water supply and drainage board director Sulochana G K Bhat, locals Jayarama Shetty Kaup, Prabhakar Shetty, Purushotham Shetty Vamadapadavu, Dinesh Shetty Dambedar, Vijaya Rai Aladapadav, Vinod Poojary, Bhojaraj Shetty and others were present.
