Mangalore, May 6: The Jury that went through the process of nominations for the prestigious Rotary India Award for the year 2009-10, has chosen the city-based Navodaya Grama Vikasa Charitable Trust for this national level award.
Managing trustee of the trust, M N Rajendra Kumar, said that this rare honour, being decided annually by the jury of the New Delhi-based Rotary Award for Service to Humanity India Trust, is given to the best voluntary service organizations of the country every year.
Navodaya Charitable Trust, which has been working for the economic and social upliftment of the poorer sections of the society, had recently organized a hugely successful decennial celebrations of the self help groups. The said award was decided after considering the functioning of these self help groups under the Trust, Kumar revealed.
The Trust already has been bagging the annual awards being given by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) consecutively since the last three years from 2007 to 2009.
Rajendra Kumar will be receiving the latest award at the 18th Rotary India Award programme being held at Le Meridian Hotel auditorium in New Delhi on May 19, in the presence of various dignitaries.
