Shivamogga, Nov 8: With the coronavirus pandemic affecting the education of the student community, especially those from rural areas, chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday promised to extend all help from the state government to the rural students for their education.
The chief minister, who is on a visit to his home district of Shivamogga, participated in the 'Jnanadeevige' virtual programme jointly organized by the Kannada TV channel, Public TV and Rotary Club, on Sunday.
He said the government was fully aware of the problems faced by the rural students due to internet connectivity problems as most of the educational institutions were conducting online classes as opening of educational institutions had become a problem due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the government would do its best to help the rural students, the chief minister urged the private sector institutions to join hands with the state government in its efforts.
The COVID pandemic had seriously affected the educational sector besides resulting in serious economic problems and slowdown.
Yediyurappa said the Jnanadeevige programme will help 2.68 lac students across Karnataka and announced that that it will be extended to all the 30 districts in the state.
He appreciated the efforts and initiatives of the media organisations in creating public awareness and educating the people on the need for following the protocols to overcome the COVID pandemic, especially in maintaining social distancing and wearing of masks.
Justice to Sharavathy displaced persons
The chief minister said the state government will ensure that all the displaced persons due to submersion in the construction of Sharavathy dam received adequate and justice in securing compensation.
The officials have been asked to take steps to ensure that steps were taken to provide justice to the displaced persons, who had lost their lands without receiving compensation since several years.
The chief minister said the state government has convened a meeting of the officers concerned in Bengaluru and would do its best solve the problems pertaining to grant of compensations.
