Mangaluru: Minor girl's father alleges police brutality, case filed against cop

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Nov 6: A case has been filed on Friday against a cop of Bajpe police station for allegedly beating a minor girl in front of her father inside a police station.

The complaint by the minor girl's father has been registered at the women’s police station, Mangaluru. The complaint stated that the father-daughter duo was called by the police for an enquiry regarding a harassment case filed by the girl against a boy. Instead of questioning the boy, the woman cop reportedly thrashed the girl causing major injuries on her body. The girl was then admitted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment.

As per the father of the minor, the girl and boy became acquainted in May last year. Thereafter, he was constantly harassing the girl and forcing her to marry him. When the girl's parents turned down the proposal stating that the girl is a minor, the boy began threatening the family. Following which, the girl and her father filed a complaint against the boy at Bajpe police station.

According to police, based on the complaint of minors, both girl and boy who know each other very well, were called to the station for enquiry. The police tried to convince both to end the relationship and explained the aftermath when one is minor. The lady police separately counselled the girl and explained her rules and regulations. The girl's father also permitted the police to make the boy understand. Meanwhile, the girl's father repeatedly demanded to register a POCSO case against the boy. The police also promised the girl and her father that they would take strict action against the boy if he continued his contact with the girl. But after leaving the police station, the girl’s father cooked up an assault story and admitted his daughter in the hospital.

Meanwhile, a group of representatives and community leaders met the police commissioner Vikas Kumar and urged action against the police who misbehaved with the girl in the police station. After meeting the police commissioner, former MLA J R Lobo said, “We are not interfering in the investigation of a complaint which was filed at Bajpe police station by a minor and her family. The police are free to investigate in their own style. But we condemned the assault on minors in the police station and demand strict action against the cops who were involved in this. The assault gives a wrong message to the society that a complainant got assaulted in a police station where he or she should get protection. The police commissioner has assured us action and we have faith on the law of this land.

Along with J R Lobo, Ivan D’Souza, former MLC, Shalet Pinto, district president, Mahila Congress, A C Vinayraj, corporator, Rolphy D’Costa, president, Catholic Sabha, Roy Castelino, PRO, Mangalore diocese, Stany Alvares and other leaders were present.

Police are known for their extremely brutal excesses!!

Recent cases which come to mind are of a father-son duo, in TN being tortured to death, an accused lady tortured & killed mercilessly in Arthur Road jail, & the recent killing of Pink Floyd in USA, which brought the entire country on it's knees!!

How we are to know the girl is not at fault? Just because she is a girl does not mean she is innocent. But it seems that the boys party is more powerful and influential. It is the way it is and always will be. Money power will always win. No point in protest etc.

    People,

Major surgery is needed for Police force....this illness will not go away with band-aid...

Can't we train these Police...like they do in West ???....Some say this behavior because Police are paid less....some others say only 'rejected goods' join Police force...

Whatever it is....this is not sustainable for long....people will revolt sooner or later...

    ...Tak...Takk...

Langooji,USA ,To tell you the truth ,I dont believe this girl or her father.Am sure it is not from Police.I know in India Police do assault in their police station without merci, but here it must have from either falling or assault from her father or lover.because this blue marking is on her upper arm.when police assault ,it is mostly on back or Po.How can they assault on upper arm?Probably father must have caught on arm and read leviten to her because of her love affair,or lover was angry and caught hold of her hand.Let them clear it firstWhy should Police assault her ?Here Police are not allowed to assault or shout at them .not to touch too.Unless they are thieves or behave badly. In India police first beat first and hten question. let them clear about this first .

The person responsible for atrocities against the minor girl should not only be dismissed but also action should be taken under different sections of IPC.
    Zero tolerance in such matters.

Appreciate Lobo and Ivan coming in support to get justice to the minor girl against police brutality. I wish and hope leaders from other parties too come forward and ensure fair justice to the victim, cutting across party lines and without politicizing or communalizing the issue.

The pictures dont lie. The police under some influence has gone in favor of the boy. This is a clear case of police assault on a woman. The cop needs to be suspended until an enquiry. People already have no faith in police. This will further weaken any leftover confidence.

We can see the grevious injury in the pictures. Police are comming with their own version. Such lady police cop should be dismissed and sent home for her brutality. Hatts off to our leaders they have done a good job. We have to follow up with this case.
