Udupi, Nov 6: Udupi police have arrested nine people in connection with the attempt to muder of the AKMS Tours & Travels owner Saifuddin, a resident of Kodavoor, Malpe. Following the attack, a case was also registered in Manipal police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by Saifuddin. The district DSP had formed three separate police teams of DySP Udupi, Karkal and ASP Kundapur to arrest the accused.
The investigating team officials collected details and arrested nine accused including a woman w from Regency Lodge, Murathangadi, Karkala after the incident. The arrested accused are Darshan Devaiah, resident of Virajpet; Santhosh, resident of Marnad, Moodbidri; Anil Kumar, resident of Somvarpet; Sukesh Poojary, resident of Marodi, Belthangady Gopala, resident of Marnad, Moodbidri; Mohan, resident of T B Cross, Belthangady; Somu, resident of Rampura, K R Nagar; Mahesh Babu, resident of Piriyapatna and Saubhagya, resident of Virajpet.

The operation was conducted under guidance from DSP N Vishnuvardhan under directions from additional SP Kumar Chandra by Hariram Shankar, ASP Kundapur; T R Jaishankar, DySP Udupi; Bharath S Reddy, DySP Karkala; Manjunath M Gowda, PI Manipal; Sampath Kumar A CPI Karkala, Anantha Padmanabha CPI Brahmavar, police inspector DCIB and staff, Rajashekar PSI Manipal; Raghavendra C, PSI Brahmavar, Sudhakar Tonse, PSI Hiriadka; Madhu PSI Karkala town and Suma PSI Hebri.
Earlier on November 4, a gang of people brandishing swords had raided the office of Saifuddin who owns AKMS Tours & Travels which is located in Lakshmindranagar here. The accused who entered the office with swords had attempted to kill Saifuddin who luckily managed to escape the attack.
Manager Umesh and Saifuddin's friend Akram's screams at the sudden attack by the gang on Saifuddin had drawn the attention of Ansar of the adjacent hotel and other customers to the office. On seeing the crowd, the accused escaped from the scene in a brown-coloured Duster car bearing registration number KA 19 MD 4208, along with the driver of the car.
