Kundapur, Nov 6: A Mangaluru-based deep sea fishing boat that was found engaged in conducting illegal bull trawl fishing about ten nautical miles away from Gangolli was taken into possession by the police personnel of the Coastal Security Police Force with the help of local fishermen.
Two boats were engaged in this activity. But when the fishermen and Coastal Security Police Force conducted the operation, the other boat escaped and only one boat could be confiscated. Ten fishermen of Andhra Pradesh origin were taken into custody.
Kundapur assistant director of fisheries department, Sumalata, said that based on the report of the Coastal Security Force, report will be submitted to the higher authorities.
Fishermen angry
The country boat fishermen have condemned the bull trawl fishing engaged in by the Mangaluru-based boat. A large number of fishermen came together at the coastal security police station and also the port area at Gangolli. Country Boat Fishermen's Association president Manju BIllava, members of the association, president of Fishermen's Cooperative Society Sadashiva Kharvi, vice president Sooraj Kharvi etc were present.
Coastal Security Police Force in-charge inspector Ananthapadmanabha, Gangolli police sub-inspector Bheemashankar and others were present.
