State BJP leaders demand special law to thwart 'Love Jihad'

Bengaluru, Nov 5 (IANS): A day after Karnataka minister tweeted implying the necessity to enact a law to thwart 'Love Jihad', clamour within the state BJP grew with Revenue Minister R Ashoka conceding on Wednesday that discussions on a law to stop 'Love Jihad' are going on within the party.

Speaking to reporters here, Ashoka said that the party had been discussing about the possibility of enacting such a law for some time now.

"Allahabad High Court passing an order against conversions for the sake of inter-religious marriages gives us the required strength to come out with a law against purported Love Jihad," he said.

The minister added that in recent times, organised forces have been trying to mislead the youth by proselytising them. "Even this was highlighted by the Allahabad High Court's verdict," he said.

The minister claimed that the ruling party was in consultations with various legal experts, besides keeping a watch on the developments in this regard.

"After the High Court's order, many states ruled by our party are thinking hard to come out with a law to thwart Love Jihad, and Karnataka too will have such a special law," he said.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje said that Love Jihad was nothing but an act of terrorism. "Those who try to covert others to their religion should be booked under acts that deal with terrorism," she said.

"Those who try to covert others to their religion should be booked under acts that deal with terrorism," she said.

Some clarification need to be issued.
Whether or not such law/action would apply to anyone who would willingly agree to convert to Hinduism ? Is that considered and liable to be booked under such acts.
Akka please make that clear. Draft the law, study it well before implementation.

Let us go back to vedic times and legitimise gandharva vivaha. Thus our tradition will be revived and these politicians will focus on real problems instead of some fictitious love jihad.

BJP's first priority should be good healthcare, employment and infrastructure. CM BSY, his ministers, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Shobha Karandlaje, Prahladf Joshi, Sadananda Gowda, Vedavyas Kamath and all the MLAs of DK/Udupi districts should travel by cars/autos from Hampankatta to Kulshekar, Kankanady to Thokkottu and other areas of Mangalore cIty. Then talk about Love Jihad, Cow slaughtering etc etc. Visit the MCC, RTO, Taluk, Sub Registrar, DC, MUDA, offices and Govt hospitals and see the services. Check the corruption going on in every Govt offices. Also speak out about the unemployment problem, School reopening etc etc.

It may seem foolish in our part of the country but unfortunately it has become a serious issue in Non-BJP ruled Kerala. What do you say to it?

actually there has to be law to prevent any marriage by men through undue influence, misrepresentation, suppression of facts.... this should apply irrespective of religion of the couple involved... married men hiding fact of marriage, leading the girl to bad habits such as drinks / drugs by the man etc. etc. these two things came out in Prashanth - Rashmita case... he was married which he has hidden... he influenced her to consume alcohol etc.

Beti Bachao should not remain hoax or mere slogan .. just like lot of other catchy slogans... In Indian society, women are more vulnerable than men.. this should apply to all marriages without regard to religion/religions of the couple... if the parents of the girl feel that she is being cheated / or led to bad habits by any man with promise or understanding of marriage, they should be able to file criminal case about this in court...

Look at the irony - those who have chosen life to stay single, are talking about love -marriage. If what you say is true, wouldn't you too have drawn towards it, Ms. Karadlaje ??

Now, is the law for taking away girl & boys only, or it applies to girls fron other communities coming in too ? Please make this clear. Your young men shouldn't lay their eyes on any girl than their own community. Agree, or not ??? It shouldn't be like 'welcome' to come in, but banned to go out.

Oh yes, keep comparing India with neighbouring countries and make laws i.e. CAA/NRC/NPA. One has already gone ahead in economy graph, slowly others too will leave you behind. You will be doing head-count all that time and end up borrowing from neighbours to feed your exploded population.
