Puttur: Municipal election - BJP's Jeevandhar Jain prez, Vidya vice president

Puttur, Nov 3: K Jeevandhar Jain of the BJP was elected as the president of Puttur city municipality while Vidya R Gowri of the same party was elected unopposed to the post of the vice president on Monday November 2.

Dr Yathish Ullal, Puttur sub-divisional officer, functioned as the returning officer for the election held on Monday November 2 evening. Municipal commissioner, Roopa T Shetty, supported him in the election process.

In the 31-member Puttur municipality, 25 councillors are from the BJP. Five are from the Congress and one represents the SDPI. Jeevandhar Jain of the BJP and Robin Tauro of the Congress entered the fray for the post of the president. Robin Tauro secured only three votes as two Congress councillors were absent. Jain who got 27 votes emerged victorious. He got the votes of the MLA and the MP. SDPI's lone lady councillor remained neutral.

For the post of the vice president, the Congress did not field any candidate. As such, BJP's candidate, Vidya R Gowri, was declared elected unanimously.

Speaking at the congratulatory meeting held after the election process, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, said that competition in politics is natural. He advised the two parties to unitedly work to achieve progress in the city. MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor wished the newly elected president and vice president the best of luck.
