Abu Dhabi: Mandd Sobhann's Kalakar Puraskar presented to singer Anita D'Souza

Abu Dhabi, Nov 2: Noted multilingual singer Anita D'Souza was conferred Kalakar Puraskar instituted by Mandd Sobhann and Karaval family in a ceremony held at here.

NRI entrepreneur and Konkani leader Leo Rodrigues honoured Anita D’ Souza with a shawl, memento, fruits, flowers and Rs 25,000 prize money. Michael D’Souza read the letter of felicitation. Goa-based Dr Pratap Naik introduced the awardee.

Konkani cultural leaders Valerian D’Almeida, Benet D’ Mello, Franklin D’ Cunha and Sandhya Vas were on the dais. Annu Bantwal compered the programme. Vivek Serrao, husband of Anita and daughter Anwika were present.

Purna Patholi - 3 musical programme with songs written by various poets and lyrics by Eric Ozario was held as part of 226th monthly repertory of Mandd Sobhann.

Jerald D’Mello rang the bell and set the programme in motion in the beginning. The programme was telecast by Daijiworld TV and YouTube due to coronavirus restrictions.

Anita has sung in 12 languages including Konkani, Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam, English, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Arabic and Beary, in addition to the Nawayati branch of the language. She has sung over 500 songs which are recorded in different CDs, in over 3,000 programmes held in India and Gulf countries, and also as playback singer for movies. She also has brought out her own albums 'Yaad', and 'Colors'.

In recognition of her talent and contributions, Kerala government has honoured her with the title 'Kalatilaka' while Karnataka Beary Academy has conferred the title 'Tulunada Gana Kogile (2006). Kannada Sahitya Academy honoured her with the title 'Vishwa Gadinada Rani Kogile (2011), Mandd Sobhann gave her the global Konkani music award, best singer (2014).

Anita is a native of Kulur in the city. Currently she lives in Abu Dhabi. In recognition of her contribution towards enriching the field of Konkani singing, she has been chosen for the above award.

On account of COVID safety reasons, the programme was held in Abu Dhabi.

    Anita rightfully deserves the honor and award for her exceptional talent and artistic performance on the world stage. God has blessed Anita with Melodious modulating voice which is rare and Anita singing is 12 languages over 3000 programs confirms her range and adapting to different cultures speaks volumes about her Talent. We have immensely enjoyed Anita performance at several Programs.
