Mangaluru, Nov 1: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra and MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty visited the landslide area of Matadagudde at Gurpur near here, where a hill had collapsed four months ago. They accepted petitions of victims and discussed about the compensation.

The DC said, "Those who are living in rented houses after the landslide should get the compensation soon. We will try to get housing facility from Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation."

"A 1.5-acre land is identified under the limits of Ganjimutt gram panchayat for the victims of Matadagudde landslide in Gurupur. Legal process with regards to this has begun. Another 2.5-acre land is also identified in the same village. There is no suitable land available under the limits of Gurupur gram panchayat," said Mangaluru tahsildar Guruprasad.

The DC further said, "It is true that shifting to some other place all of a sudden after residing in a particular area for many years is difficult. However, will you people, who have already suffered a lot, build houses here itself and invite more trouble? The possibility of building permanent house in this area is very remote. It is better to get shifted."

Zilla panchayat member U P Ibrahim, taluk panchayat member Sachin Adapa, sub-divisional officer Ravichandra Nayak, deputy tahsildar Shivaprasad, revenue inspector Asif, PDO Aboobacker, BJP leaders Rajesh Suvarna, Srikara Shetty, Somaiah, Nalini Shetty, Sesamma and Jalaja were present.
