Mangaluru, Oct 31: Now-a-days, cooperative societies, in tune with the modern-day demands, have been opening big stores on the lines of malls and marts even at the village levels. They have also succeeded in this sector. At a time when businesses elsewhere are reporting a slump in business due to lockdown, new experiments on the above line have happened at five places in Sullia taluk. These stores provide good quality service to customers at competitive prices.
Cooperative societies had set up shops to sell necessities at Aivarnadum Kalanja, Balila and Enekallu in Sullia taluk in the past. Now, these shops are getting expanded into huge marts. When lockdown was on, the cooperative society at Aranthodu had opened a mart in the name, 'Samruddhi'. Later, Guthigar Primary Credit Cooperative Society started its 'Suvarna Sahakari Mart' in its premises.

New technology has been introduced at these marts. Just like mega malls, customers select what they want, place the things in their carts and get the bills prepared at the cash counters. They can also use credit cards, debit cards, wallet apps etc for payment of the bills. Various offers too are made in these marts. The people of the villages are happy that they get different things with additional choices at reasonable rates. At present, provisions, cattle feed, and other items of daily use are available for sale. The marts will soon add vegetables, milk, ice cream etc to their kitty. Home delivery system, which is in high demand now, have also been introduced at these marts.
