Deepa said she had married Surendra G Poojary, who has been named as the first accused, on May 3, 2012, and her parents had, under pressure from her father-in-law Govinda Poojary, mother-in-law Chandu Poojary and others, had paid dowry of two lac rupees in cash. After marriage, the couple settled down in Bengaluru.

However, her married life proved to be a bed or rocks as her husband and other members of his family continuously inflicted physical and mental torture on her demanding to bring additional dowry. She has said that she was threatened with murder if she revealed what sort of harassment she was undergoing there to her parents. She was, in course of time, forced to leave her husband’s home by bringing pressure on her and also through domestic violence.

Horrible this dowry harassment in India is still exists. It looks like girls are buying boys with their money. Why should they consider as their partners How many familys suffer because to get a girl married ,later still harassing to bring money from their parents as though it is milking cow.I advice every girl ,working or not, dont marry a boy who asks dowry.and later harass bring more money.Instaed boys should give money to bride for her sari or ornaments.Parents are giving higher education that is costly enough.Boy should earn for his family by working not with money from bride for his car or bike.

Look you young girls, dowry is a practice of ancient times when the man was going to work, woman looked after the house matters and raised kids. Today's women earns as well as runs the household.

Stop giving in, fight for your dignified existence. Say no dowry to your own parents, in-laws is out of question. Earn and buy what you want, don't burden your parents nor your husband.

Dowry, a curse on the Indian society, must be removed from its root. To curb such evils from the society, a widespread social awareness should be started through churches, temples and mosques. Parents give such a diamond to the boy, why he wants more ? When we marry, generally we look at the qualities such as education, physical and other attributes that are able to have a conflict free married life. Then what more we want ? Will they not beget girls ? I think begging is far better than demanding dowry.

The groom's family started looking upon marriage of their son as an opportunity to extract money and valuables from the girl's family. The plight of women reached a new low with girls seen as burdens on their families. This gave birth to the menace of female infanticide. Many married women are constantly rebuked, tortured and even killed by their in-laws for not bringing enough dowry. The Anti-Dowry Act, has proved to be a legislation on paper only. Persons who demand dowry are blood sucking leeches and should be boycotted by the society. Till it is done, this torture on our daughters will continue.

This should be the attitude of every woman in India. Any kind of physical violence on woman and such dowry cases must be reported immediately to the concerned. These kinds of problems still prevail in certain households. This should be checked.

Brother who knowns the true sometimes they are false allegations against the husbands in-laws to just hide their shortcomings and issues with the girls before marriage. The situation should be accessed with any prejudice.
