Udupi, Oct 27: Expressing disappointment at hardline campaigns taking place in Udupi, district BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak said, “Any kind of 'Hatao' campaigns that are taking place in Udupi, a place which has been a symbol of unity among people of different religions along with social, educational, cultural and business sectors is unacceptable."
Speaking at a press conference held in the BJP office on Tuesday, October 27 over the 'Marwadi Hatao' campaign that has gone viral on social media, the BJP leader maintained that people from different communities have contributed to the success of the Indian economy. “Citizens of India are allowed to conduct business anywhere in the country for their livelihood and prosperity,” he said.
“Thousands of people from Udupi conduct their business in and outside the country. The BJP is against harassment of people who are carrying out their businesses in Udupi because of the statements and activities of 'Marwadi Hatao' campaign," the district BJP president said.
“BJP believes in ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, which refers to the collective unity for the development of all. BJP is with every form of businesses which operate in Udupi. The party gives courage to businessmen who face problems in other states. Such discriminatory statements are harmful to the unity of the country. It is necessary that in the current situation unity is maintained and the country grows prosperous,” he said.
“Elections will be held in Kundapur on October 29. BJP has been unable to obtain the seats only in Kaup local administration. It has managed to win posts of the president or vice president in other places. The local administration has been quiet without power for the past two and a half years. Soon, the developmental works will pick up speed,” he said.
“BJP won 102 seats out of 154 in last gram panchayat elections. It is aiming for more than 130 seats this time. BJP is stable in the district. Local elections will be held in November-December this year. Discussions on the selection of candidates are also being held at the rural level,” he said.
Veena Shetty, Guruprasad district BJP spokesperson, Shivakumar Ambalpady, co-spokesperson and Srinidhi Hegde, media convener were present.
