Bengaluru, Oct 27: As the date of polling for the Rarajeshwari Nagar assembly bypoll is nearing, tussle for supremacy is hotting up. Allegations of candidates distributing money to bag votes are being heard. The BJP and the Congress have filed complaints of bribing the voters against each other in Yeshwantpur police station.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Saeem Ahmed has complained that BJP candidate, Muniratna and BJP workers have offered lure by way of Rs 5,000 for each vote in cash if they vote for the BJP.
In a counter complaint BJP activist, Puneeth Kumar said that Narayana Swamy, a Congress MLC and his supporters were found to be collecting voter identity cards from the voters near Lord Ganesha temple at HMT Layout. "He and his supporters enticed the voters with an offer of money in case they voted for the Congress candidate. When we questioned them, they abused us with filthy words and also posed threats," he said.
Yeshwantpur police, based on both the complaints, has registered non-congizable reports. Now, under the instructions of the court, first information reports (FIR) have been registered in both the case, they added.
BJP candidate and Muniratna and his supporters have been named as accused in one case. In the other MLC Narayana Swamy and his supporters have been named accused, the police said.
