Udupi: Case filed over illegal fishing against fishermen from Tamil Nadu

Udupi, Oct 24: A case is filed against 10 fishermen of Tamil Nadu for illegal fishing as well as causing damage to local boat at Malpe fishing port with the intention of sinking it in sea. All the 10 fishermen are under judicial custody.

The case is filed by Kishore Karkera (31), son of Vamana Salian, resident of Lavanya Nivas, Bailakere, Kodavoor post, Malpe. According to the complaint filed by the complainant, the complainant had left Malpe fishing port at 6.30 am on October 22 in a boat named Makara Sankranti, owned by Shanraj. When they were fishing at around 11 nautical miles distance from the port in the Arabian Sea, two huge boats of outstation state approached the boat of the complainant and showed him lethal weapons like knife, sword, iron rod and threatened him not carry out fishing in the said area.

According to the complainant, there were 10 people each on two boats. Out of them one boat escaped from the spot. The name of the other boat is Indian. The fishermen on the boat Indian, dashed their boat forcefully with great force, with the intention of sinking the boat and killing the fishermen on the Makara Sankranti boat. As a result, Ram, Dev, Danaiah, Kalaiah, Divakar and Janna, the inmates of Makara Sankranti boat were thrown into the sea.

The local boats which saw the outstation boat colliding against the local boat brought the outstation boat named Indian to Malpe fishing port shore. On inquiry it was known that the inmates of the boat were from Tamil Nadu state. Their names are Robinson, Zachariah, Praveen, Rohan Dijo, Arul, Denis, Joseph Ajayan, Subbin, Arul Sheelan and Abeen Samuel.

Due to the intentional collision of Indian boat, the owner of Makara Sankranti boat has incurred a loss of Rs 25 lac due to the damage caused. The complainant has stated that the accused crossed the territorial water limits meant for them and indulged in the illegal act.

A case is filed in Malpe police station under sl no 86/2020 and column 143,147, 148, 307, 427, 507, and 149 of IPC.

    tamilians and keralites around kanyakumari know both malyaali and tamil... difficult to make out who is malyaali and who is tamil... names of these rogues sound more malyaali than tamil... they should be tried for attempted murder...

    where is the mastermind, maloo owner of the rogue vessel...?

    this incident brings to mind tragic missing fishermen of Malpe untraced till now...

    were they victims of this kind of attack by intruders...

    I agree. For TN fishermen to come to the coast of Karnataka, they must cross the whole length of Kerala which is time consuming and they might rather fish from Kerala coast than sailing north wasting their fuel.

There should be very strict rules for not allowing fishermen from other states into our territory. Where our fishermen can go. Our fishermen should unite forgetting the caste/creed and all...

    public of DK and Udupi are only fit for beef related issues. Big darpoks.

    One cannot imagine any one from here going to TAmilnadu and doing the same.

    We are good in voting blindly for chaiwala and party, though the development is nil.
