Udupi, Oct 22: The state government has drawn up a plan to convert five villages from every assembly constituency into electricity model villages. These villages, in addition to getting electricity transformers based on the need, are expected to open up to new experiments in the matter of power supply. Accordingly, 30 villages from this district have been chosen for being turned into model villages.
At the rate of one village for each revenue division, five villages having highest population from each assembly constituency have been identified for this plan. The plan includes providing clear power lines, electric poles, repair of transformers, providing transformers to ensure that there are no voltage problems, replacing of old cables, providing street lights in modern way, protective cover for cables, encouraging solar lights and timer switches among others.
Tender process to spend Rs 40 lac for each village with a total of Rs 12 crore is now on. The contractors will be given two villages each. Providing all kinds of equipment and maintenance will be vested to them for one year. Thereafter, the same is handed over to Mescom.
The villages selected are Mattu, Heroor, Pilar, Marne and Bellarpady in Kaup constituency, Hebri, Waranga, Sanoor, Bajagoly and Nitte in Karkala constituency, Moodutonse, Kalathur, Haluvalli, Kenjoor and Haradi in Udulpi, Kadoor, Shiroor, Amasebail, Madamakki and Shedimane in Kundapur constituency, Ampar, Siddapur, Nada, Kalthodu and Jadkal in Byndoor consituency and Belman, Alevoor, Nalkur, Molahalli and Kirimajeshwar under the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency quota.
Mescom superintendent at Udupi, Narasimha Pandith said that development works worth Rs 40 lac will be executed in each of the chosen villages and three phase line and uninterrupted power supply will be given priority.
