Bengaluru, Oct 21: In a rare incident, police personnel from here caught a flight to catch hold of a thief who had fled by train with stolen ornaments worth Rs 1.3 crore.

In this case, the police who were aware that it is difficult to catch the thief took prompt action as a result of which he could be nabbed. The police who took a flight waited for the thief coming by train at Howrah when the train arrived.

The accused is from Burdwan, West Bengal. He used to work as an assistant at the home of a Bengaluru-based builder. The builder had provided residential accommodation to the youth on the underground floor. In the meanwhile, the house owner had visited the hospital as he was diagnosed as coronavirus positive.

The accused who saw that the owner was not around, skillfully took away an electric locker containing valuable jewellery worth Rs 1.3 crore. He dreamt of spending luxurious life and boarded a train bound for Howrah. He was comfortably convinced that it was impossible for anyone to find his whereabouts.

The builder who reached home realised about the theft. He immediately informed the police. The police checked the CCTV footage and found that the thief had boarded the train to Howrah at Yeshwantpur railway station. As the train had left long back, the police took a flight to Kolkata. The police reached the railway station before the train reached there.

They arrested the thief and registered case against him. Investigation in the matter is underway.
