Mangaluru: Red bauxite mining - Ramanath Rai demands thorough investigation

Mangaluru, Oct 17: Former minister B Ramanath Rai, pointed out that large scale red bauxite mining has been going on in Dakshina Kannada district and gave a call to stop this illegal activity and bring the culprits to book.

Addressing a press meet in the city on Saturday October 17, he said, "Illegal mining of red bauxite has been going on in the district just like the mining scam of Ballari. Unauthorised people have been undertaking mining activity in places like Mudipu, Balepuni and Innoli near the city. The miners are using fake licences for undertaking mining. This has been causing huge losses to the government as royalty is not being paid by these miners. Permit has been obtained for mining at one spot but mining is carried out at different places. This activity has the blessings of the ruling party MLA. Permit is for undertaking mining at Badaga Yedapadavu, whereas mining has been taking place at Mudipu. Scamsters from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra and Tamil Nadu are hand in glove in this scandal," Rai said.

He said that Infosys Technologies, St Joseph Church and Krishnadhama prayer centre have been facing problems because of this mining. He demanded in-depth investigation into the mining and sought formation of a committee for the same.

    Red bauxite is mined and transported out but the local problem is all projects are halted due to non availability of sand. Bauxite or sand, both are natural resources. Influential persons making illegal wealth by selling one load of sand for Rs. 20 K that was otherwise mere six-seven K per load.

    Announcements are made just for show. Sand is still held at ransom.

    I dont have to say one single word about political parties as they are all involved in it including the administration officers ! These nexus are harming the nature at large and blaming each other in PRESS MEET !! People are idiots to listen to those politicians ! We seen the HAVOC during the rainy seasons small downpour is making nasty destruction everywhere because of human selfishness.

    Both parties harvesting so much money from sand,boxite and other mining in DK. This almost know thing.Both parties playing musical chair of press meet to fool. All know why sand scarcity in DK. Both never want the problem been solved.

    You are right Mr. GURKHA. Politicians are drama people . To launder countries coppers they enact any type of gimmicks. Shameless people. Whether it is JDS, BJP or CONGRESS, all are same = cheating the people.
