Mangaluru, Oct 17: Oil mixed with water is seen flowing in Kuthethoor area near Surathkal in the outskirts of the city. The people who believe this to be crude oil, have expressed apprehension about their health and safety.
Crude oil pipe has been laid by the roadside between Thokoor and Padoor. The mixture of oil and water is flowing in the land belonging to a local, Mayya Shetty, The people who started worrying about the possible adverse effects, conveyed information to Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Ltd (ISPRL).
ISPRL officials who visited the spot denied the claim of oil leakage. They clarified that this was not crude oil.
The local people suspect that ISPRL officials have been providing false information to the villagers. They say that oil leaked from the ISPRL facility is flowing with water here. They also are fearful that the leaked oil may get mixed with well, river, drinking water well, agricultural fields etc. In the past too, people from here had expressed strong opposition to the plan of laying oil pipeline.
