Mangaluru, Oct 17: The city buses here have offered a weekly and monthly bus pass facility known as 'Chalo Super Saver Plan' to the commuters. The passes will enable passengers to undertake trips at a cost of about Rs 3.99. This was announced by Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association president, Dilraj Alva.
Addressing a press meet at press club here on Friday October 16, Alva said that this card will be valid in all the city buses.
Alva explained that daily commuters pay ten rupees per trip while under Super Saver scheme, they can take 100 trips in 28 days for Rs 399. This works out to Rs 3.99 per trip, he pointed out. He also mentioned that on any specific day, these cards can be used for a maximum of four trips.
Those who buy card by paying Rs 20 can recharge it with any amount. If they buy Rs 50 Chalo card, they will get Rs 30 balance. On payment of Rs 100, card will get balance of Rs 80, Rs 210 if Rs 200 is paid, and Rs 550 if Rs 500 is remitted, he stated.
For being a member of the scheme, people have to furnish photocopies of Aadhar card or PAN card. The cards are available at Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association office in Milagres Building Hampankatta, Chalo office in the city tower building opposite State Bank building, at Sagar Tyres opposite Mandovi Motors on Balmatta road, and also from the bus conductors. Soon, Chalo app would be introduced, from where cards can be acquired. He said already about 4,000 Chalo cards have been sold and presently, 90 percent of city buses are functioning. He expressed the confidences that all the city buses will begin movement by the end of this month.
Alva said that separate bus pass system for students would be introduced and the same will be launched on November 14. These cards will be in two types, one for first standard to PUC and the other for degree classes, he stated.
Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association treasurer Susheet Shetty, and Chalo company senior manager Santosh Deshpande, were present.
