Kalaburagi, Oct 16: Revenue minister R Ashok said that the union finance ministry has agreed to increase the compensation amount for damage due to flood and rains by five times.
Speaking to the scribes, Ashok said that Rs 5 crore will be given to district administration of flood-affected districts to handle the situation.
In Karnataka 173 taluks have been declared as flood-affected. Due to floods crop on 3,31,170 hectares and farm crop on 23,996 hectares is lost. Moreover, 1,268 bridges have collapsed.
Ashok also said that the state government will urge the Centre to declare the flood damage of Karnataka as a national disaster. He also said that more than 10,000 houses have collapsed due to rain. 360 lakes have burst and 3,168 government buildings have been damaged. However, he concluded by saying that there is enough money in the account of all DCs and that there is no need to worry about compensation.
