Kundapur, Oct 15: The general public, pedestrians and vehicle riders alike have been facing a lot of problems because of the national highway widening work at Trasi junction. The people of Trasi have been demanding for the construction of a wide divider and circle at the junction.
Trasi in Kundapur taluk happens to be the centre place for reaching villages like Gangolli, Gujjady, Hoosadu, Trasi, Nadaguddeangady, Maravanthe, Hemmady etc. This is the focal point for the trucks and tempos bound for Gangolli fishing port, buses moving to Gangolli, auto-rickshaws etc. In this important circle, an unscientific, narrow divider has been erected for the vehicles in the middle of the highway. This problem, which is further complicated by the absence of service roads, has given rise to several accidents and loss of lives.
There is no proper circle for the road leading from here to Gangolli. The fact that the road has not been widened as yet has added to complications This is creating problems for the people and vehicle users. A spacious divider should be erected and lighting should be provided at the circle and beach area. Service road should be laid from Annapayya hall in Trasi village to Trasi beach. A circle should be built for the convenience of vehicles moving to Gangolli and that road should be widened. Auto and taxi stands should be built and foot bridges should be erected for the use of pedestrians, the locals have urged.
They have submitted petitions to MP B Y Raghavendra, Byndoor MLA, B Sukumar Shetty, and the engineer of National Highways Authority of India explaining these problems and asking to see that corrective measures are undertaken.
