Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Oct 15: Yettinahole, the ambitious project aimed at supplying drinking water to districts in the plains, has been progressing at snail's pace. The government says when completed, this project will satiate the thirst of 29 drought-hit taluks, but the project implementation leaves much to be desired.

Actually, the senior officials plan to start pumping water during the rainy season of 2021. The original project cost was Rs 12,913 crore but as per the revised estimate, the cost has gone up to Rs 18,397 crore. It is planned to complete the entire project in 2024 and with delay, the cost is expected to escalate further. The project cost may exceed Rs 20,000 crore as per estimates.

Work on the project, which was the dream project of the former chief minister Siddaramaiah who initiated it, had started in 2014. During the last three years, Rs 4,477.15 crore has been spent. Total amount spent so far exceeds Rs 6,600 crore. The taluks which will be served by this project are Alur, Belur, Arasikere, Tiptur, Chikkanayakanahalli, Gubbi, Tumakuru, Koratagere, Madhugiri, Pavagada, Nelamangala, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Ramanagara, Magadi, Channapatna, Srinivaspura, Mulbagal, Kanakapura, Chikkaballapur, Gouribidanur, Bagepalli, Shidlaghatta, Gudibande, Chintamani, Malur, Bangarpet.

Not only Yettinahole all Projects may be small or big they are limping. No medicine for this. If the projects are completed within a stipulated period then whats the use. Our tax payers money is being wasted unnecessarily. The Govt. says and gives justification that this project will satiates the thirst of 29 drought hit taluks taluks. But it leads to think us that it satiates their hunger and thirst for money.

When there are more important and pressing issues like foundation stone laying and building Ram temple, demolition of mosques near Kashi, Mathura and Kumbha Mela, CAA, NRC, NPR, identification numbers for cows, toppling democratically elected state govts etc which has significant influence on gaining votes. What is this Yettinahole as if people are not living now with whatever water they get?!?!?!?!?!?............Its we first then if we don't need and remains then throw it to scavenger people who have to again pay taxes to us for our pleasure.

Why does this kind of sloppy project management happen only in DK, especially in Mangalore (Smart City!)? I just saw a Youtube clip on a similar but 19 times bigger project on Godavari in Telengana. It was completed last year in 3 years including worlds largest and most powerful pumping stations...

If they are able achieve project goals as per plan, then it would be nice.
Many impossible projects have been completed recently. Especially infra projects.
Let us hope at the end, DK people get their share of water.!

In the Government projects nobody can ask the cost and also time of completion. Such projects are made for the politicians to make money and nothing else.

30% next year, 10% in year after that, then 10% - pull on till the term ends, and beyond too.... Public money. Who cares ?? Those very people who protested when the project was proposed, are executing it now. Similar to DeMo, GST, so on.

Only abrogation of Art. 370 & NRC/CAA is cought up in Modi/Shah's throat as it doesn't proceed since Covid-19 hit them badly since then
