Bengaluru, Oct 15: Yettinahole, the ambitious project aimed at supplying drinking water to districts in the plains, has been progressing at snail's pace. The government says when completed, this project will satiate the thirst of 29 drought-hit taluks, but the project implementation leaves much to be desired.
Actually, the senior officials plan to start pumping water during the rainy season of 2021. The original project cost was Rs 12,913 crore but as per the revised estimate, the cost has gone up to Rs 18,397 crore. It is planned to complete the entire project in 2024 and with delay, the cost is expected to escalate further. The project cost may exceed Rs 20,000 crore as per estimates.
Work on the project, which was the dream project of the former chief minister Siddaramaiah who initiated it, had started in 2014. During the last three years, Rs 4,477.15 crore has been spent. Total amount spent so far exceeds Rs 6,600 crore. The taluks which will be served by this project are Alur, Belur, Arasikere, Tiptur, Chikkanayakanahalli, Gubbi, Tumakuru, Koratagere, Madhugiri, Pavagada, Nelamangala, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Ramanagara, Magadi, Channapatna, Srinivaspura, Mulbagal, Kanakapura, Chikkaballapur, Gouribidanur, Bagepalli, Shidlaghatta, Gudibande, Chintamani, Malur, Bangarpet.
