Mangaluru, Oct 15: The district recorded torrential rainfall on Wednesday October 14, as a result of artificial floods were created at many places and property was damaged.
The rains which began to pound the city from Tuesday late night continued on Wednesday. Many places were waterlogged. Stranded water on the roads including national highway created constraints for the traffic. Water also entered houses and shops in various places like Malemar, Urwa Store, Kannagudda etc. The compound wall of an apartment complex on K S Rao Road collapsed. There have been reports of compound walls crashing to the ground from several other places.
Water which entered areca nut and paddy fields inflicted losses. Mud and fallen trees which got deposited on roads created problems in a few places. Because of drainage problems on the national highway at Ujire, people faced a lot of problems. Water which overflowed from a drain near Kayartadka resulted in the flooding of paddy fields. A huge tree which fell on the national highway 169 at Kelaparkala threw traffic out of gear for about two hours on Wednesday.
Heavy rains were reported from Puttur, Venoor, Dharmasthala, Kadaba, Sullia, Bantwal, Moodbidri, Suratkal etc. The bathing bay in River Kumaradhara at Subrahmanya was inundated. The sea continued to be tumultuous and the meteorological department has continued with the orange alert issued by it earlier till October 16.
