Mangaluru: Multiplexes ready for reopening, single screens may take a while

Mangaluru, Oct 15: Some screens at the Big Cinemas at Bharath Mall Bejai, and the Cinepolis in City Centre Mall in the city will reopen on Thursday October 15. They will exhibit the movies, screening of which had suddenly been suspended in March initially. PVR cinemas at the Forum Fiza Mall will take some days to reopen. No official announcement has been made about the Inox Manipal. Bharath Cinema at Manipal will reopen on Thursday.

The multiplexes have taken all safety measures and arrangements to attract audiences. Social distancing will be scrupulously followed, and seats have been rearranged. Online booking has begun.

City theatres like Jyothi, Ramakanthi, Roopavani, Suchitra, Prabhath, Nataraj theatre Suratkal, Amarashree at Moodbidri, Aruna at Puttur, Santhosh at Sullia, Bharath at Beltangady, as well as Alankar, Kalpana, Ashirwad, Diana, Vinayaka, Radhika, and Planet in Udupi district have prepared for shows but they have not announced the dates.

Single screen theatre owners have to spend a lot on maintenance and renovation to meet coronavirus conditions. They also have to meet heavy expenses on salary, electricity and other heads every month. If the shows are to be closed again because of coronavirus concerns, they will be at a loss. Therefore, several single screen owners have not taken a decision on reopening, it is learnt.
