Davanagere, Oct 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added a feather to the illustrious cap of Davanagere city by wearing masks made there. The masks Modi wears were made here by social activist K P Vivekanand, his wife Shanta and daughters, Kavya and Namratha along with Kavita Devi, daughter-in-law of Ranjit Singh, a dealer in electricals.
Vivekanand said that during the lockdown they got an idea of making the masks. "We made 8,000 masks and sold 7,000 free of cost. We made these masks by using high-quality cotton cloth and canvas and have designed them in such a way that they do not obstruct breathing. These masks are attractive to look at and hence got a good response from our friends and relatives," he explained.
Vivekanand says that inspired by this success, he had sent 40 masks in tricolour to the Prime Minister by speed post on August 13. "The parcel reached him on August 17, but we did not get any response from there. But after we saw a photo of him wearing a mask, we found that he was using the masks made by us. Our happiness knew no bounds," he explained.
