Mangaluru, Oct 14: Assistant commissioner of Mangaluru sub-division, Madan Mohan C, has been transferred abruptly. The state government has posted Ravichandra Nayak, joint executive director of Mangaluru Smart City project, in his place.
The state government said in its order that this order has been issued with a view to implement the order passed by Karnataka Administrative Tribunal.
It is said that efforts to transfer the assistant commissioner were on from the day he led a team of officials and impounded 30 vehicles including lorries, backhoes, Hitachi etc which were involved with illegal bauxite mining. It is said that local people's representatives and influential people involved with this activity were angry at this raid and attempts to transfer the official were on since then. There were speculations that the official could be transferred anytime. Some suspect that the state government would have bent under pressure from the bauxite lobby.
